Hi Diane,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Repair Office Click-to-Run. The files you created by using Microsoft Office are not deleted. However, you can choose to save the Microsoft Office settings or customizations that you created in the Office programs. In Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
From your issue description I understand that the laptop is showing 100% Disk usage and continuous bandwidth.
This issue might have caused due to third party security software which is automatically installing updates in the background resulting in continuous bandwidth and 100% Disk usage.
Please answer the following questions to find the root cause of the issue:
1) Have you installed any third party security software?
2) Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
3) Do you get any error messages/code when the issue occurs?
4) Did you check 100% disk usage in Task manager?
Let us try the following methods and check if that resolves the issue:
Method 1: Temporarily Disable the Third Party Security Program.
If you have a third party security program, then I would suggest you to contact the technical support of the Security program and temporarily disable the software.
Note: Antivirus software can help protect the computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time the antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
Method 2:Check in Safe mode with Networking and then perform clean boot.
Step 1: Safe mode with Networking.
Boot the computer in Safe mode with Networking and check if the issue persists. Follow these steps to start the computer in safe mode.
a) Press the ‘Windows + C’ key on the keyboard.
b) Click on settings then click more pc settings and then general.
c) Scroll down to advanced startup, click restart now.
d) Click on troubleshoot, advanced options, Windows Startup Settings.
e) Click restart, select safe mode with networking and then press enter.
Note: Restart the computer to start in normal mode.
If the issue does not persist in safe mode with networking perform step 2.
Step 2: Perform clean boot and check.
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Please note: After the troubleshooting, make sure to boot your computer to normal mode by following the step 3.
Method 3: Run Microsoft safety scanner.
Download and run Microsoft Safety Scanner from the link to make sure you computer is not infected by virus:
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

When the updates are downloaded but blocked from being applied, you will receive a notification, a small pop-up window that is displayed in the notification area.
Most updates do not require an Internet connection during the entire update process. However, if an Internet connection is required during the entire process, you will get a message letting you know that you must stay connected until the update is completed.
